This is what annoys me about Glee:
I follow the show on facebook - as well as It gets better, the trevor project, etc - and so my feed was alive with activity tonight.
Here are two things that were on my home feed:

…if I didn’t know better..I would say that these two shows have nothing to do with each other.
Glee is trying to be two things - a meaningful show that inspires and changes lives, and a commercialism tween dramedy.
The heart of the show and what it stands for, especially for the arts, is fantastic. The actors are obviously passionate about their characters and are always amazed by the support from their fans. Serious plotlines mix with scathing humour to make this show unique. It has gained a following of dramatic arts groups, lgbt organizations, anti-bullying movements and more.
But then it has to go and stab itself in the foot. The promos for each episode are often extremely misleading, the website is mostly frivolous with games and nonsense, and the facebook page and twitter isn’t any better. They promote Glee merchandise, buying the songs, the albums, the dvds - all the superficial things.
If I were someone who knew nothing about the show, saw all this stuff and then sat down to watch the show itself - I would be thoroughly confused. They try and come off as light and fluffy, when the show itself offers the opportunity for meaty dialogue.
Now it is listed as a ‘comedy’ so yes, light-heartedness is to be expected, but in light of the serious issues that the show touched on this week, it is extremely disheartening to see that while the Trevor Project got the message, the Glee Facebook team seemed to be too busy promoting ‘stickers’ to learn from their own show.
